PTAs are licensed health care providers working under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. Both PTA programs have probationary accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). PTA and PT are both that have quality course work is high and that the schools produce people qualified to serve the public.
In New Mexico there are two universities offer PTA education, namely Pima Medical Institute and San Juan College. These schools offer Associate of Occupational Science and Associate of Applied Science Degree. It also features accredited expansion programs and multiple admission dates.
