Organizations hiring physical therapist assistants generally require an associates degree. This is normally a two-year or four semester program that includes both coursework and clinical experience. The studies include courses in chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology, algebra, and psychology. According to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics (USDL BLS), approximately 72% of physical therapist assistants and aides work in physical therapy facilities or within hospitals. Admission to a physical therapy assistant (PTA) program may require a pre-entry test to evaluate skills in science, math, English and reading.
